Mark off a box in the second section each time you speak with a decision maker. Mark off a box in the third section each time you set an appointment. The number at the end of each row is a reminder of how many youve achieved in total so far. Add up the numbers for each section at the end of the day and write them in the space at the bottom of that section. This will help you keep track of the percentage of calls youre able to transition to appointments. If the percentage is very low, you might need to work on your cold calling strategy, perhaps by revising your phone script or writing a new opener. If the percentage is high but youre still not getting enough sales, simply upping the number of cold calls you make could resolve the problem. Keep copies of your tracking sheets in a binder or folder for future reference. If you change cold calling scripts or otherwise make a major change to your approach, write a note to that effect on the sheet, or attach a sticky note summarizing the information. This will help you compare your results before and after making the changes so you can see if theyre really helping you. How Long You Shou ld Keep Them At a minimum, youll want to hang onto your tracking sheets at least until the quota period ends. But it may be a good idea to keep them even longer. You might find it interesting to compare your results from this time last year to this year, for example. What changed? What did you do differently? Those notations and sticky notes you attached should help you remember, and remembering means refining your cold calling technique even more.

Through this feature, you get more concrete, real-time advice on how to draft emails to contacts as it looks up publicly available data on them to give you the best research on how to reply to them.With generational and cultural differences at play in the workplace, employees are right to worry about having their tone and meaning misunderstood in communications. There are office etiquette guides to Slack and real-time spellcheck plug-ins dedicated to helping anxious workers present their best, curated self at work.If writing networking emails to strangers makes you anxious, having Crystal on your side can feel like the boost needed to get your tone right. But as for me, its also a reminder that if you want to kno w who someone is beyond their AI-selected assessment profile and computer-assisted emails, its better to meet them face-to-face.

1 in 5 women say they are ‘only’ woman in the room at work 1 in 5 women say they are ‘only’ woman in the room at work For too many women at work, they are the only one of their kind at work, a unique species of employee with no others to talk with and learn from.In the latest Women in the Workplace report by LeanIn.Org and McKinsey Co., more than 64,000 employees and 279 companies weighed in on their experiences at work, and for too many, their careers were a story of isolation and stalled progress. One in five women said they were the only woman in the room at work.   This excluding experience became more pronounced for women of color and lesbian women. Forty-five percent of women of color said they were the only person of their race in work situations, and 76% of lesbian women reported being the only one of their sexual orientation.It is too common for women to be ‘only’ oneIdentifying as an “only” had disastrous consequences for women’s careers. Women who were surrounded by men in the office became 1.5 times more likely to consider quitting their job. They also experienced sexual haras sment and microaggressions at a higher rate. When women were “onlies,” they said they needed to provide more evidence of their competence, were more likely to be addressed in a less-than-professional way, and were more likely to have their judgment questioned, compared to women who had other women at work.When you are the only one of your kind in the corner office or on a project, you lack allies and support that can foster your professional development. Studies have found that women keep women in male-dominated industries. To see what you can become, it helps to have someone else like you live through it first.When there is only one woman on a team, the report found that the rest of the workplace is more likely to project all their hopes and anxieties about women onto that one woman. “While they are just one person, they often become a stand-in for all women- their individual successes or failures become a litmus test for what all women are capable of doing. With everyone’s eyes on them, women Onlys can be heavily scrutinized and held to higher standards.” When asked about their experience of being an “only,” the top feeling women reported was a pressure to perform. As one black woman who worked as a mid-level administrator put it,  the pressure to excel can be heavy. “I have to be ‘on’ all the time,” she wrote. “Because in the back of someone’s mind, they could be judging the entire race based on me. And I don’t want anybody else’s opportunity to be ruined because I messed it up. I know that seems really heavy, but that is often how I feel.”Men who were surrounded by women had a more welcoming experience. For men who identified as an “only” on their team, their top takeaway about the experience was feeling included and fortunate to be on the team.The report is an annual snapshot of women’s progress in leadership, and despite the report maintaining urgency for more company investment in women’s careers, progress remains stalled. For Facebook COO and LeanIn.org founder Sheryl Sandberg, this needs to change for any progress to stick: “There is a disconnect in corporate America,” she wrote in a Facebook post about the report. “Year after year, companies report that they are highly committed to gender diversity. But the proportion of women in their organizations barely budges. For this to change, companies need to treat gender diversity like the business imperative it is.”Marie-Claude Nadeau, a partner at McKinsey San Francisco, told Ladders that facilitating more ways for women to collaborate and grow together can be part of the solution. “Senior women are twice as likely to be Onlys. One possible solution is for companies to think about grouping women at senior levels, promoting more women in cohorts rather than focusing on having the one token woman in every promotion or hiring slate,” she said. “At a minimum, companies need to provide opportunities for women to interact at work. You’ll be sure to wow your audience if you follow these tips. Use these tips to ace your next video interview: 1. Show how prepared you are. Your employer is conducting  a video interview with you to save time and perhaps for convenience. Making sure there  arent any technical difficulties will help show that you are respecting your potential  employer’s time and efforts. Here is some behind the scenes work that will ensure success: Be sure your laptop battery is fully charged; otherwise, plug in your laptop. Test your camera and how the video looks by Skyping with someone outside of your home. If you have wireless issues, plug your laptop into your router. Before the interview, reboot your computer so that it’s given a clean slate to work from. Be prepared to share your screen. During the interview, the only application that should be open on your screen is the video feed. If your interviewer asks you to show your screen to share some creative work or coding examples, you don’t want them to see you’ve Googled a question you’ve been asked or any private messages. Give your interview your complete attention by turning off notifications like Facebook or email. 2. Set the stage. Your camera should be at your eye level. When you are talking to the employer, you want it to feel like you’re face-to-face. Would you be looking up or looking down at them if you were sitting at a conference table? When someone is talking to you, look at the screen. You’ll listen better by reading their body language, listening to what they are saying and what they are not saying. If you stare at the camera the whole time, it’ll be challenging to read between the lines. When you answer their question, look into the camera to make eye contact. Next, pay attention to your body language and movement. Look alert and interested by sitting up straight, leaning in slightly, and smiling. Arm or hand movements can make the video choppy, especially if you do not have a high-bandwidth Internet connection. Try to keep body movements to a minimum so your interviewer can pay attention to your words and not a choppy video feed. Before the interview, check that there is a good amount of light shining on you. The more light the better! Place a light right behind the camera aimed at your face or put two lights to the right and left side of your camera and one in the background. 3. Breathe and allow silence to occur. Because you are not face-to-face, it’s sometimes easy to get excited and interrupt the person who is talking. So be mindful of giving the other person time to complete their thought before you share yours. Not only is it rude to interrupt but it also takes a few minutes to get back into the conversation because of the miscommunication and technology. Instead, take a deep belly breath so you aren’t expanding your lungs or raising your shoulders (making it visually evident that you’re taking a deep breath) and wait your turn to talk. 4. Send a thank-you video. Typically you’d send a thank-you email after an interview, but why not keep the show going? After you’ve calmed down from the interview jitters, prepare a thank-you video. This will enable you to show your enthusiasm in a professional manner. Keep the video short and sweet. Thank them for their time, share what excited you about the interview, and express that you’re looking forward to hearing from them. To avoid technical difficulties, upload your video to Google Drive or Dropbox so you don’t have to email the video clip. Some email servers have an attachment size limit that a long video may exceed. When you upload the video, you’ll be able to share its link with your future employer. When you send the video, keep the email extremely short so that they want to click on the link. You can say, “I just wanted to say thank you.” and then insert a hyperlink to your video. Curiosity will get the best of them and they’ll click on the link  right away. Eight teams of entrepreneurs presented their hardware-led, socially beneficial inventions in Washington, D.C., earlier this month at the third ASME Innovation Showcase (ISHOW) of the year, ISHOW USA. Three teams two based in the United States and one hailing from Peru were named the grand prize winners of the event, which took place on June 21 at the District Architecture Center. The three winning teams will share $500,000 in cash and in-kind prizes with the winners of the two previous ISHOWS, which were held in Bangalore, India, in April and Nairobi, Kenya, in May. One of the winning teams at ISHOW USA, from the Massachusetts-based company Leuko, is the creator of PointCheck, a non-invasive, portable device that allows for the early detection of low neutrophil levels in cancer patients receiving chemotherapy. Since chemotherapy can lower neutrophil levels, which inhibits the bodys ability to fight infections, early detection of low neutrophil levels could help thousands of patients being treated with chemotherapy avoid infections. Other systems that detect low neutrophil levels require blood draws and laboratory analyses. For Carlos Castro-Gonzalez, who represented his company Leuko at the competition, being selected as one of the grand prize winners meant recognition and validation. He said: The judges were really experts in their fields. They are people that know how to take hardware products to market, and they have done that several times. And the fact that they recognize that we are on a good track to do so means a lot to us. Castro-Gonzalez went on to say that the teams cash prize would be used to hire a consultant to help the company develop a strategy for working with the FDA, which is an important next step for his team. Flix Escalanta Delgado and Adriana Lombardi Franco, two representatives from the Lima, Peru-based company Compadre, were also named grand prize winners for their product, the Solar Hybrid Coffee Roaster. Their technology enables small, rural farmers in Peru, who do not have access to electricity and normally sell their coffee beans raw, to roast their own beans using sunlight. Because raw beans are much cheaper than roasted beans, the ability to roast their beans allows these rural farmers to increase their revenue streams and profits. In addition to its economic benefits for farmers, the solar roasting process also promotes organic practices and reduces carbon dioxide output. While conceding that winning the prize money was a boon for her company, Lombardi Franco was also grateful for the opportunity to meet and interact with the ISHOW judges and technical advisors. Other competitions we have participated in were more formal it was just the pitch and then the judges decided on winners, she said. Here, we were really happy that we got to spend time with the judges so they could learn about us, our enterprise, and our company. The two hours we had with the judges was really necessary to explain our company. It was great not to be judged just on a five-minute pitch. Also, the judges and technical advisors gave us feedback right away. Some interesting ideas came out from that judging.
